Ken Huber's article, What Has America Become, has been making its way around Facebook. This article going viral is great for people to read and it couldn't be more accurate. It's a summary of my political and social mindset. For bringing my point of views to millions on the internet, I thank you Mr. Huber.
This article is very interesting. Some of the points the author makes made me realize and question what happens in the United States. The points that made me a little mad were "if we lie to the Congress, its a felony and if the congress lies to us its just policies; we take money from those who work hard for it and give it to those who don't want to work;you can kill an unborn child, but its wrong to execute a mass murder." I do not agree with some things that happen in the United States like the points I just mentioned, but as an individual there is not much I can do. As Americans we can try to agrue againist the government, but out opinions do not matter.
ReplyDeleteI agree, taking money from those who work and giving it to those who don't want to work and the killing an unborn child but its wrong to execute a mass murderer are the two that really resonated with me, along with the line about Christmas political correctness (its ridiculous!). But as a citizen, I definitely want to try and find a way to put my opinion into action one day. You're right, it's hard to make a difference, but I guess if that means I need to pursue a career in politics than maybe one day I'll do just that.
ReplyDeleteFrankly, I don't like this letter to the editor at all. It is way too black and white; some of the things he says either do not happen or need a lot more context. It's not to say that there are not some serious concerns in here--abortion (if one is pro-life) and corrupt politicians--but but of this is so emotionally charged it is ridiculous. The one about race, for instance; and the one about the Marxist threat.
ReplyDeleteSo Anthony, watch out for such grumpy thinking! And Amy, don't be so despondent about the possibility of change! What ever happened to the optimism of the young?
I completely agree there are some points over the top. As you mentioned, touching on Marxism and the Obama/ terrorist comment were terribly unnecessary. Grumpy thinking indeed! But half of this essay I couldn't agree more with and I felt it was justly simplified. You're right, optimism of the young was great, but our generation was raised in unique media times making everybody skeptics. I want our generation to get that optimism back! It's all about political correctness and skeptics now. Everybody is now trained to not trust the government and I'm hope those old time values don't become lost.
